The Ironman world championships is the pinnacle of all triathlons. This year is the 30th anniversary of the race that starts in Kailua Bay this Saturday, off the shores of
Kona, Hawaii. Central Iowa is sending six qualifiers, and three of those qualifiers are on the Rasmussen tri team. Reed Rinderknecht, Steve Feltz, and Doug Vanderweide will be among the 1,828 participants in this years race. Pro triathlete TJ Tollakson, will also be one of the athletes from Iowa participating this year. They will have to negotiate a 2.4 mile ocean swim, a 112 mile bike ride through the sweltering lava fields, and top it all off with a 26.2 mile run on scenic Illahee drive. We want to wish good luck to all participants, especially the ones wearing black and white. If you want to follow the athletes in Hawaii, there will be a live Internet broadcast, or you can track an athlete's progress by their last name with the link provided.
